Graduate Students

Updates for the 2022-2023 Academic Year:

Dr. Dunn will have space for a highly motivated new graduate student to join the lab in the fall of 2023. In the past, most admitted students have had A averages, extensive research experience, and GRE’s above the 80th percentile.

Students typically enter our program at the MA level and then proceed directly into our PhD program. Students who already have an MA degree are allowed to apply to our PhD program. However, unless you have an MA in social psychology from another program (such as the University of Toronto) that is quite similar to UBC’s program, Dr. Dunn *strongly* encourages you  to apply at the MA level. That is, she rarely admits anyone at the PhD level who has not completed their MA at UBC.

Due to the large number of applicants, Dr. Dunn does not offer pre admission interviews. However, you are welcome to email her your GPA, GRE percentiles and a 2-3 sentence description of your research experience and she will notify you whether you are competitive for admission. Those interested in studying happiness in Vancouver, you can also contact Dr. Dunn’s former student, Dr. Lara Aknin at laknin@sfu.ca, or visit her website for more information.
